Sydney Water is seeking input from non-residential users of the Greater Sydney water supply. More from Anne-Marie Mitchell of Sydney Water:
You may be aware that Greater Sydney is in drought. As set by the Metropolitan Water Plan, when dam levels drop to 50%, water restrictions will be introduced. We are preparing for this. The implementation of water restrictions is part of the plan in place to help secure Greater Sydney’s water supply.
Water restrictions will apply to everyone, but we know that for some of our non-residential customers, outdoor water use is essential to doing business.
To limit the impact on businesses, we are proposing exclusions (a list of water types and uses where restrictions won’t apply) and exemptions (granted to businesses that rely on outdoor water use to minimise the impact of water restrictions on critical business activities).
We are asking you to reach out to your members to let them know about the proposed water restrictions and encourage them to provide feedback at sydneywatertalk.com.au. Here you can:
- Find information on the proposed exclusions and exemptions
- Complete the 5-minute online survey
- Sign up to an online webinar to hear about the proposed water restrictions.
Feedback during this process will help us refine the exemptions and exclusions. We are doing this to mitigate the risk of unforeseen impact to our non-residential customers whose livelihoods depend on outdoor water use.
We are also holding small group workshops in Penrith, Wollongong and Sydney to discuss the exclusions and exemptions in more detail and would like to see you or your members there.
To attend, please register your interest by emailing Sydney Water with your details and preferred time and location.
